Overview
TrackGeek is the premier iPhone application for running fans, a mobile window into track and field news, highlights, photos and video.
The icon design presented the greatest challenge, as it needed to be identifiable in a sea of apps focused on personal fitness training and not the sport of running itself. The majority of these apps’ icons feature either a runner’s silhouette in profile or running shoes. We decided to capitalize on the distinctive image of an athlete in motion, but with a rich rendering style and at a unique angle that puts emphasis on the runner’s epicenter of power and energy.
The web site design needed to be simple and immediate, with a direct call-to-action leading the viewer to the app store. Borrowing a technique I used within my own portfolio, I created a sliding gallery solution that presents screenshots in context with accompanying text descriptions so that the viewer is never whisked away from the app store button.
The app continues to live up to its claim of being “The #1 iPhone App for Running Fans.” As of February 27, the app has a five star rating in iTunes and multiple stellar reviews.
