Overview
Since mid-2007 I have enjoyed working with the web experience team at Providence Health & Services to build a massive library of iconography for online patient tools.
Icon creation is a unique challenge in and of itself, made more so by the sensitivity and clarity required to adequately consolidate medical terminology into 16 square pixels.
In order to maintain visual harmony across all icons, I developed a reusable color palette, rendering style and guidelines for dimension and perspective. Bold, graphic outlines were chosen to ensure images maintained readability even at small sizes.
In addition to the main icon library, I created a small set of default avatars for Providence’s physician/facility directory.
