Overview
Opulence is a unique spa experience in Hillsboro, Oregon. It combines refreshing, natural treatments with a relaxing environment and a charming aesthetic combining contemporary minimalism and 20s and 30s pop culture frivolity. In redesigning the mark, I wanted it to echo the feeling of flappers and other early 1900s culture seamlessly with an overtly modern feel.
After a rather long process of sketching, I discovered that a face began to emerge from a modern, circular treatment of the first two characters. A classic Bauhaus font seemed suited to this geometry, subsequently treated to soften the edges for a more inviting tone.
I worked with the founder to develop a web site that embraced an almost zen-like minimalism with touches of elegance therein. The result is deceptively simple and extremely easy to navigate and browse. I also created an assortment of collateral including business cards, brochures, letterheads, signage and mailers.
In the Summer of 2009, Opulence began a process of re-evaluating their skin care experience. A vibrant interim page was designed and implemented, with a more complete redesign to follow.
