Overview
McAfee is one of the largest computer security companies in the world, a household name with nearly 6,000 employees. With a nearly ubiquitous presence on Windows PCs and enterprise Linux systems, their Security for Mac product seeks to bring McAfee to Apple’s acclaimed operating system.
The interface was based in no small part on mockups and guidelines provided by the McAfee Design Studio, but the process of development necessitated some deviations. I had the pleasure of creating a new set of pragmatic yet optimistic specifications with the aim of matching the cohesiveness of the Mac experience.
In the process of drafting these recommendations I created several icons for direct implementation, including:
- Event log (Small)
- Quarantine (Small)
- Update now (Large and small)
- Scan (Small)
- Custom scan (Large and small)
- Firewall (Large)
The product also uses the McAfee Global Icon Strategy guidelines I developed in collaboration with the McAfee Design Studio and the branding team in Santa Clara.
