Overview
Interoperability is an important concern for any frequent user of web applications such as email, blogging platforms or collaborative document editors. Microsoft continues to support the portability of data between its platforms and those of competitors, but this exchange is often invisible to the user and confusing to explain verbally. Working with my colleagues at Waggener Edstrom, I illustrated a day in the life of a fictional character, Isabela Interop, as her data travels between many disparate technologies and applications.
In order to accurately describe the technical aspects of the image, I found it necessary to first assemble a rough with easily-manipulated materials like sticky notes and string. This allowed me to swiftly incorporate feedback from Microsoft technical advisers prior to the creation of digital assets, where changes are exponentially more costly.
The final graphic accompanied the article Microsoft Brings Cloud Interoperability Down to Earth on Microsoft’s Press Center, and was re-blogged numerous times.
